Loyola Meralco Sparks striker Phil Younghusband is hoping to do the Philippines proud when they make their RHB Singapore Cup debut against Geylang United on Friday.

Loyola are one of six foreign sides that have been invited to the 2012 edition of Singapore’s premier cup competition, although Phnom Penh Crown and DPMM FC have since been eliminated by Great Eastern-YEO’s S.League giants Tampines Rovers and Home United respectively.
However, the Sparks, who are currently third in the United Football League, come up against a struggling Geylang United at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday and appear to have a good chance of progressing to the quarterfinals.

Iain Balshaw aims to preserve Biarritz’s proud European record and deny fellow World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson a European trophy for Toulon in Friday’s Amlin Challenge Cup final.
Biarritz, who finished ninth in the Top 14, need to win to qualify for the Heineken Cup for a 13th straight year.
But a star-studded Toulon are desperate to win a first trophy in 20 years.

Kenny Dalglish’s second spell as Liverpool manager ended on Wednesday when he was sacked by the club’s American owners following a lowly eighth-placed finish in the Barclays Premier League.

Former Anfield boss Benitez is the immediate front-runner following Dalglish’s axing and his return would be popular with the club’s fans.
